                                                                FAQ
What are varicose veins? Varicose veins are caused by failing valves in the veins which allow blood to flow in the reverse direction. The blood stagnates and can lead to pain and discoloration of the skin.

What treatments are offered? Initial treatment is to wear compression hose. This can improve circulation but does not make the failing valves go away. Closing the failing veins forces the blood to travel through new pathways. The veins can be closed using several different techniques. EVLT uses a precisely placed laser fiber to close the vein. Foam sclerotherapy  is used to treat veins which are too twisted to allow the placement of a catheter. Hook phlebectomy is also used to remove diseased veins.

Do you accept insurance? We accept most insurance including Medicare. Varicose vein treatment is a medically indicated procedure and should be covered.

I had a previous stripping and the varicose veins have returned or never went away. Am I still a candidate for this treatment? Many of the patients have had previous strippings or treatment. Using ultrasound we are able to identify diseased  areas that need further treatment. We have had excellent results with this approach.
